Bianca Patterson

by Jordan Boyd

Bianca Patterson, Houston sophomore, is a creative writer who finds great inspiration in her emotions. The Journalism major prides herself on her spiritually influenced lifestyle, as she focuses on her goal to earn her master’s degree. She plans to attend New York University’s creative writing program to earn her master’s degree that will propel her into her career. This creative college student, who enjoys scary movies and cartoons, strives toward her ultimate goal of working for London’s Vogue magazine.

“I think Vogue is one of the most diverse magazines, where it can talk about everything. I feel that more people are attracted to it, which gives it a better opportunity to make a difference,” said Patterson. After earning her master’s degree, she hopes to move to London to work for the prestigious magazine. Bianca thoroughly enjoys reading literature outside of her own to expand her abilities as a writer. “I like to read people’s poetry online in my spare time,” Bianca said.

Originally from Klein High School, Bianca played tennis, basketball and ran track for her high school teams. She also participated in Klein High School’s choir program and is a regular choir member at her community church.

When it comes to music, Bianca enjoys the melodies and lyrics of music, especially that of Lauren Hill. “It is the only music right now that has meaning to it and that I can relate to,” Patterson described about her favorite music—gospel. If she were a singer, the music that she would have most inspiration in singing is, “Definitely gospel,” she said.

Bianca, who goes back home to visit her family about once a month, said that family is, “Very important to me, especially now that I’m off to college.” She is the middle child of five siblings, who stretch from the ages of 15 to 25. Her father always told her that three things must have the utmost importance to her. “God, family, and school. And now,” she says, “I really understand that.”

Aside from school, Bianca enjoys the comic relief of the professional comedians Kevin Hart and Tyler Perry. Their crazy antics and flavorful dialogue hit Bianca’s funny bone unlike any other comedians. Her father, who is a jokester of his own, is the comic relief for the Patterson family. “My father can always make me laugh. Just everything he says, even if he isn’t trying to be funny, he is always hilarious,” Bianca happily said. But even after the jokes have settled, Bianca gets her inspiration for learning and bettering herself from her father.

When she is not focusing on her studies, Bianca writes poetry and short stories. Her writing allows her to channel her emotions in a productive way, and her writings give people insight on what she is thinking; not to mention, it produces a great piece of art. Bianca said that all aspects of her life and, “Life in general,” as she eloquently put it, inspire her to write great poetry and literature.

Bianca’s future of becoming a writer for Vogue magazine is still in progress, but she is definitely on the right track. Bianca’s creative writing and poetry skills will allow her to literally write the future for herself. Be ready to get a hold of an issue of Vogue magazine, because we have a hopeful future writer for the famous publication right here in Nacogdoches, Bianca Patterson.
