Like many of the men his age, Jordan Boyd, Houston sophomore, has a large part of his life build around sports. Boyd wants to apply his love for sports by becoming a sports journalist; he finds his motivation through ESPN. Boyd said, “ Every time I watch ESPN I see myself as an expert analyst.”
Boyd wasn’t always the kid looking in on sports; throughout his life he has had great experiences such as winning sixth in the state at the United States Tennis Association (USTA). He said that he decided to take up sports journalism because he felt that it was a good way for his voice on his opinions to be heard.
Boyd described his journey through college as unfilled, but smooth and going better than he thought it would go. Growing up he never saw SFA being the school he would end up at, he was more focused on going to Duck University.
Another thing that motivates Boyd to make it through college is that he will be the first in his family to graduate from college. He said that his attending college will also give his younger brother more of a promising future after high school. Boyd said that if there was one thing he could change in his world would be to educate more people. Focused is the one word that Boyd said that he would use to describe himself. “ I always seem to have a path for the future for myself”, he said.
Although a lot of his love and motivation goes to sports, in high school Boyd was involved in musicals and he was also involved in the choir. Which explains why he mentions that the color that describes him is blue because he is reserved but can come out of his shell. Boyd said, “ Someone who can sing and act exceptionally well at the same time is impressive.”
Being involved in theater brought up one of the unique characteristics of Boyd, which is being able to read people well. He feels that this is important for him to do because it allows him to handle things better.
When Boyd feels that he just needs to get away from it all he said that he goes for a run. “ It helps me leave everything behind me”, he said. He continues on saying that music is also one of his outlays to life. Boyd enjoys listening to rock because of the instrumentals; he said he likes the sound of the drums and the guitars.
After Boyd graduates from college, he plans to go to graduate school so that he has a boost on his resume. When ask where he sees himself in ten years, he said that he hopes that he would have achieved his goal by writing for the New York Times.
